The story behind the design

Maki is the character in Jujutsu Kaisen who wins with nothing but her body and her weapon. No spectacular effects, no glowing spheres: just technique, endurance, and a lot of stubbornness. A brightly colored illustration would have betrayed her; this one chooses the opposite.

The treatment is that of a manga panel rather than a promotional image: halftones, grain, flat blocks of deep black, and whites that cut out the face and arm. The background is speckled with light dots, like a spray of dust frozen in mid-motion. Nothing is explained, everything is in the expression.

And that is where the two red dots do all the work: one on the forearm, one at the corner of the lips. On an entirely desaturated image, these two spots are the only source of color — it's impossible to look anywhere else. It is the principle of the single accent, and it is what makes this case immediately recognizable among all the others.
