Frieren stands, three-quarters facing, her staff slanted in front of her. The background is a clear sky, deep blue at the top, milkier towards the bottom, with a few wispy clouds. Her white cloak and light skirt stand out sharply against this blue.

This is the most readable visual from a distance in the collection: two masses, a light silhouette against a blue background, and a diagonal — the staff — crossing the bottom of the image. It can be seen from across a room, which is not the case for the close-up portraits.
