The Chinese Novel that Inspired the Series' Name
Dragon Ball's starting point comes from Journey to the West, the Chinese novel where a monkey king armed with an extensible staff escorts a monk. This 1989 illustration pushes the homage to the limit: red staff, golden headband, turquoise cape, and tiger-skin skirt, the exact attributes of the monkey king.
Behind him, Piccolo observes, and two companions complete the scene in a drawn frame. It's the most erudite poster on the shelf: it will appeal to those who know the source as much as to those who love the drawing.

What is the connection to Journey to the West?
The Monkey King from the novel inspired the character of Goku: same extensible staff, same cloud, same name in Japanese. The illustration adopts his traditional attributes.
Is the frame included?
No, and this is intentional: no passe-partout, no
stretcher bars, no framing. The canvas travels flat or rolled, without risk of broken glass, and the price
remains that of the poster alone. You can choose your own frame — or simply tack it up as is.
