The mask and the kagune

Sui Ishida imbued his series with two visual elements that lend themselves perfectly to sculpting: Kaneki’s zipper mask and the kagune, that organic red weapon that erupts from the back. On a figure, the kagune is what provides all the presence—and what is most expensive to produce correctly.

Kaneki’s transition from a shy student to the white-haired character results in two radically different figures of the same person. This is the first detail to identify on a product page.

An aesthetic that demands darkness

This is a license that does not display well in bright light: blacks, deep reds, and matte surfaces lose all their depth. Grazing, relatively cool lighting reveals these pieces much better than a frontal spotlight.

Frequently asked questions

Are the kagune translucent or opaque?

Both finishes exist. Translucent gives a more convincing organic effect under lighting, while opaque is more solid. Our pages describe what is visible in the photos, without claiming materials not specified by the manufacturer.

Do the figures follow Tokyo Ghoul or Tokyo Ghoul:re?

Both periods exist and are clearly distinct: black hair and mask for the first series, white hair or investigator attire for :re. A single character can therefore appear in very different guises.

Are the masks removable?

Rarely on a PVC statue, where the mask is sculpted as part of the head. Some pieces offer an interchangeable head: this is specified on the page when applicable.
