The detail to see is in the eye: the iris is not an iris, it's a butterfly wing pattern, purple and white, painted in the circle of the pupil. Around it, black hair turning purple at the tips and a white uniform collar.

This is the cleverest idea of the nine portraits: instead of placing the butterfly in the hair, as the back view does, the illustrator put it in the gaze. You don't notice it right away, then you can't unsee it. A scroll that is worth it, and therefore needs to be hung where you can get close to it.
