A kakemono is not a poster. It is a flexible canvas mounted between two wooden bars, which can be hung on a nail and taken down in two seconds. No frame to buy, no glass to break: the scroll arrives assembled, cord included, and it hangs straight on its own because the bottom bar acts as a counterweight.
Two series, two ways of looking
This collection consists of two sets that complement each other. On one side, fifteen visuals seen from behind: the slayer facing a black background, the large kanji painted across the haori, and nothing else. You see no faces, that is the gamble of the series—everyone is recognized by a detail, a braid, a serpent, a hairstyle. On the other, nine portraits in close-up, half a face each, framed so tightly that the scroll cannot contain it: the complete gallery of Hashira.
Three sizes, three uses
The 25 × 75 cm fits in a hallway, on a door frame, or between two shelves. The 30 × 90 cm is the size for a bedroom, above a desk or a headboard. The 40 × 120 cm requires a clear wall and two to three meters of distance: this is where the portraits are almost life-sized and the face-to-face interaction is in full effect.
What you need to know before hanging
The canvas is matte: it does not reflect the ceiling light or the window, unlike a print under glass—which counts for double here, where most of the visuals are solid black. It arrives rolled and takes twenty-four to forty-eight hours to lose its shipping creases, simply by hanging. A dry cloth from time to time is sufficient, and it is best to avoid direct sunlight for several hours a day.
The two series align very well: three 25 × 75 cm scrolls spaced about ten centimeters apart form a coherent frieze over one meter of wall.
