A slayer seen from behind, arm extended upward, blade held vertically. The background is a deep black speckled with a few luminous dust motes, and the only point truly lit is the sword's guard, which catches a cold light.

The entire series to which this scroll belongs is based on a simple idea: never show the face. We only see the back, the haori, and the weapon, and it is up to the viewer to recognize who is standing there. The result is much more graphic than a portrait — from a distance, it is a silhouette and a clear diagonal against black. This visual is the most sober of the lot, one that fits anywhere without imposing a specific character.
