The story behind the figure

The Going Merry withstood cannon fire, storms, and a waterfall descent before giving up the ghost, and no shipwright in the world could repair it anymore. The crew then gives it a sailor's funeral: they set it on fire in the open sea, and the ship finds the strength to reply to them one last time to apologize for not being able to go further. This is the only moment in the series where the entire crew cries together. This diorama keeps both halves: the captain, and the ship.
