Before becoming commander of the second division, Ace was a captain. He had his own crew, his own flag, and this ship — along with a singular obsession: to take down Whitebeard and become the Pirate King. He challenged him a hundred times. A hundred failures.

The old man, amused, eventually offered him a place in his family. Ace said yes, his men followed, and the Spade flag joined the fleet of the most powerful pirate. This ship is a testament to the Ace we only see in flashbacks: younger, more arrogant, and already unkillable.
