The story behind the blade

When Tanjiro receives his blade, the blacksmith Haganezuka anxiously awaits the verdict: a Nichirin takes on the color of its wielder, and no one knows beforehand which one it will be. It turns black — the shade said to bring bad luck, belonging to slayers who never become Pillars. Haganezuka is devastated. Tanjiro, however, doesn't care: he has a sister to save. This color remains one of the series' best-kept mysteries, and the reason why his blade is unlike any other.

Why is Tanjiro's blade black?
A Nichirin blade takes its color upon first contact with its wielder. Tanjiro Kamado's turns black, a shade so rare that slayers say it brings bad luck — no Pillar has ever wielded one. The manga suggests it might be linked to the Breath of the Sun, the very first of all.

Is this katana replica sharp?
No. The blade is made of soft PU foam and is not sharpened: it bends under pressure instead of cutting. This makes it safe for use at conventions and photoshoots without the risk of cutting a costume or a hand.

Is the display stand included?
No: the black wooden stand visible in the staged photos is only used to show the blade horizontally. It is not supplied. Our katana stands and displays are sold separately.

Does the katana come in a box?
It is shipped in a protective bag, without a publisher's box, and over-packaged by us for transport. The 104 cm length requires a long package: please be present for delivery.

Where to display a 104 cm katana?
